EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL 2015
On the 25 April 2015, in just a few minutes, an earthquake reading 7.8 on the Richter Scale, whose epicentre was approximately 80km to the west of Kathmandu in Nepal, caused more than 8,000 deaths and injured 18,000 people.
From the very first moments, our local team at the AMTM House in Kathmandu were at work and hundreds of people have already been rescued, helped, kitted out and comforted…
But there still remains so much to do. To finalise the assessment of the 20 site which AMTM supports in this region, to take stock of the requirements in repairs, equipment and rebuilding.
Thanks to the funds raised from the 'Course des Héros 2015' : €35,000 net
and from the appeal for donations for "The Nepal Earthquake" : €110,000 €
little by little you will discover how these put to use in the areas supported by AMTM:
- REPAIR WORK ON THE NUNNERY'S BUILDINGS
€9,000 were released to make several repairs to the Kunzang Chöling Nunnery's buildings in Nepal, some of which exhibit significant cracks.
About 60 nuns live in this large building in the suburbs northeast of Kathmandu.
- ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER
Access to drinking water is obviously a health priority.
€2,000 have been assigned for purchasing water tanks and hundreds of water purification kits.
Here a 5,000 litre tank has been installed as an emergency.
- DISTRIBUTION TENTS AND MATTRESSES
€7,000 have been assigned for the purchase of dozens of tents, of all sizes, along with foam mattresses, which have been handed out to those who have been sleeping outside since the first shocks, as well as over several hundreds after-shocks which have been counted up to this day.
- SUPPLYING MEDICINES
€1,500 have allowed the Pharping Hospital to replenish its stock of medicines and guarantee their distribution at various camps in the region.
- DISTRIBUTING HYGIENE KITS
€1,000 have been assigned for the distribution of dozens of hygiene kits (including soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels and pillow cases).
Here the kits are being handed over to the Headmistress of the Manjughoksha School by Kunzang.
